A Serious Bug has been reported in the upgrade to wife 1.0.
Users have reported that when upgrading from Girlfriend 1.0 or above to
Wife 1.0 the application becomes a memory hog leaving very little system resources for other
applications.
Upon installation, Wife 1.0 is apt to spawn a child device which further
consumes system resources.
No mention of these bugs is included in the certificate of authenticity which
accompanies the installation of Wife 1.0, although many users accept this as normal due to the
nature of the application.
Note: Wife 1.0 installs itself in such a way that it is always launched at
system initialisation, monitoring all other system activity. It is this system monitoring that causes
BeerBash 6.5, Ladsnight 3.0 and Pullbird 1.23 to crash the system when selected.
Even though these applications worked fine before.
Further more, there is no option to disable the installation of useless Wife
1.0 plug ins, such as MotherinLaw 55.8 and BrotherinLaw Beta version.
System performance is reported to deteriorate with each passing day, however DO
NOT consider installing the performance boosting Mistress 1.1.
If you try to install Mistress 1.1 before uninstalling Wife 1.0,
Wife 1.0 will delete MSMoney files before uninstalling itself.
Mistress 1.1 will then refuse to install claiming insufficient resources.
Please also be aware of certain Shareware applications, notably LocalBike
7.95 which are likely to carry viruses that may affect Wife 1.0 rendering the whole system
practically useless.
It may be possible however to install the development application Mistress
3.5. This Software is aware that Wife 1.0 is running with priority and installs using
cloaking techniques to avoid system conflicts. This particular version will install with no nag
messages about upgrading itself to Wife 2.0.
Those who have no desire to upgrade Girlfriend 1.0 to Wife 1.0 should
also be aware of a known bug in Girlfriend 2.0. Again, you must uninstall Girlfriend
1.0 before installing Girlfriend 2.0, this is due to potential conflicts over the shared
use of the primary I/O port.
Some users have also noticed that the Girlfriend uninstall utility does not
work very well, leaving undesirable traces of the application in the system.
Note: That most versions of Girlfriend below version 8.0 will also pop
up annoying messages about the so called advantages of upgrading to Wife 1.0.
End of Bug Warning
